Update 2/24/2011

More snow!!! I am not sure how much we are supposed to get.  It looks like the lake is pretty well opened up, but the Corp office said that as of Tuesday there was still ice underneath the water on the main lake. No way to verify that without putting a boat on the water. Lake level is at 607.7.—-I have been seeing a lot of snow geese flying north and east of here, but I must say, I haven’t really been home enough to see any around here.  My guess is they are here, but I can’t verify it.  I will know more through this weekend. —- We had a real good turnout at the Sports Show in Rock Island at the QCCA.  I met lots of our old friends and met some new ones as well.  It’s a long show to work, but I always have a good time doing it. At least this year I didn’t have to drive home through a blizzard.—-The phone is starting to ring pretty steady for reservations, so if you are thinking of coming to the resort for spring fishing or turkey hunting it would be a good idea to call and talk to Mary about getting some dates reserved before they fill up.—Be safe!!

Update 2/18/11

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Well it has been a long winter around here. The lake is still frozen so I wouldn’t plan any fishing trips quite yet. My best guess is that there will be some open water by next weekend. We will monitor it pretty close this coming week and I will post as soon as there is enough water to launch a boat. The lake level went up about 6′ with all the snow melt we have had. The good thing is there is very little snow left to melt at this point.—–We just got back from a week in the Florida Keys with the whole family and really had a great time. We timed it perfectly as we missed the whole storm here and it was 80 most every day there. We caught and ate plenty of fish and even had a few drinks. That kind of trip just makes the winter go by a lot quicker.—- There is open water below the dam in case one feels the need to get out on the water and there is no reason to think the fish won’t bite in the right conditions… water release from the dam.—— Boat show season is here and I am up at the Quad City show in Rock Island this weekend.—– Now is the time for coyote hunting if thats your thing. They should start mating here in the next couple of weeks.—–The crappie forecast is for EXCELLENT fishing this year and the catfish are supposed to be quite good as well. Bass is rated as good. We are looking forward to a fun year and seeing all of our friends back for some relaxing times. It won’t be long and we will be at that magical time when the turkeys are in season and the crappies are cooperating and the mushrooms are popping. That makes for a trip that can’t be beat.—-The prime times are starting to fill up so if you are thinking of coming you might want to get your reservation in place.—-Be safe!!!
