Update 2/16/13

Saturday, February 16th, 2013

Lake level is at 605.1. The lake is pretty well clear of ice and there are a few hardy folks getting out fishing. The crappie can certainly be caught this time of year but usually you will need a slow presentation. A minnow under a bobber is one method that will work. They will be working their way to the normal spawning spots about now so if you know where to catch them during the spawn I would start out on the 1st break out from there. As the sun heats the water during the day they will move up in the water column and sometimes head towards the bank. Last year they were catching spawning crappie in February. it hasn’t been that warm so far that I expect to see that this year, but the lake never really froze over much either so I think they will start somewhat earlier than normal. All of this is dependent on upcoming weather of course.

I have been seeing a lot of snow geese over in western Illinois if anyone is looking for a trip where you can get in a lot of shooting.

We do have minnows here at the resort and Mary will have the store open again starting March 1. If you need anything before that just stop at the house and we will be glad to help you out. We have had to institute a price increase effective in March. Take a look at the “Rates” section of our website. We will honor last years price for anyone that already has a reservation for this year. Mary and the girls have been busy painting and cleaning to get ready for another season of making sure our regular and also our new friends have good clean accommodations. We are looking forward to a year of “normal” water levels and great fishing.
