Update 1/18/14

Sunday, January 19th, 2014

Lake level is at 605.2 and pretty much frozen everywhere. We need some warm weather to open it up. Looks like a winter of no fishing on MTL. By all reports it was a tough year for most of the deer hunters around the lake though I have heard of a few that did quite well. Myself, I saw more deer while hunting than I usually see and even managed to arrow a nice doe early in the season. I certainly have not seen as many along the roads as in a normal year. I believe the diseases last year did a lot more damage to the herd than people thought. Some states in the area even cancelled some of the late seasons due to lower numbers of deer. To help the herd come back a little quicker why not get out and target some coyotes this winter? It sure helps defeat the cabin fever.

The annual Shed Hunt is again being put on by the Corp up at the new Visitor Center on Feb 22. They are capping registrations at 125 kids age 2-12 so if you are interested get ahold of them ASAP. You can reach Clara at 573-735-4097 for more information.

I don’t have a date yet for the Christmas Tree drop but I will be talking to the Corp in the next week or so to get one. I will post it as soon as I know something.

Mary and I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and are ready for a great New Year. We are hoping the fishing is a lot better this spring. The crappie certainly had plenty of shad to help them winter over in good shape.
