We got 3-4″ of snow here and it is still snowing a little. I don’t think we’ll get much more accumulation. The roads here are snow packed so be careful.— Still 3 days to get that last deer with the muzzle loaders.— The lake is still open and there are some waterfowl hunters getting out. Lots of geese in the area.—As soon as I hear about the Christmas tree drop I will post it here. Anyone that has Christmas tree’s to donate can bring them here and drop them off.

Ron, We haven’t met yet! I just want to Thank You for posting the reports all year and keeping the interest up for MT. It seems like it was a rough year at Twain for me, couldn’t catch a cold up there! Happy New Year to you and your family! Lets hope 2010 is a better year for all!

lake frozen yet? seems like with these temps it would have ice clear across – seen it many times before.

Thanks for the wishes! We can’t help but have a Happy New Year living in this paradise. It will definitely be better when it warms up a bit. The lake is frozen over as are all the little ponds. The ponds should be plenty safe to fish on by now, but be sure to stay off the main lake. I hear it is illegal to go out on that ice. Even if it isn’t it is not a safe thing to do.There are still some small game seasons open. Hopefully the late winter will be warmer than the early winter was and the snow on the ground does tend to make it easier to hunt small game.

We sure will be. Make sure you introduce yourself so we can put a face with the name. Good luck hunting. We are planning to do some coyote hunting ourselves this weekend.

Ron,
Have you heard anything on Thomas Hill lately. I tried to find out,
but can’t find any info anywhere. We were hoping to get out this
weekend since it is supposed to be fairly nice.

Ron,
Had two first time experiences at MTL over the summer: going to MTL and catfish jugging. Not much luck, but I still had a blast. I’m chomping at the bit to pull in my first flathead. Didn’t hear of anyone having much luck at MTL this year. Heard the stories and saw the pictures from years before. Do you think 2010 will be very fruitful? See you in the Spring!

Could someone from near the lake please snap a picture of it from say the dam area? City slickers are courious what it looks like this time of year.
Thank You

Sorry guys, was out of town. I haven’t heard anything on Thomas Hill yet. I will call Lynn and find out if he has done anything over there. I know he was planning on going early this week. I hope so Ryan, the flatheads seemed to be pretty tight lipped this past summer. I’ll get a picture Joe, but it might be from the South fork bridge rather than the dam since I don’t get up that way to often. Heading out coyote hunting right now. Will post pix if we do any good.

Was at Thomas Hill Friday, caught my limit of 10inchers,and about 60 small ones (makes a great day of fishing) mostly fished the main lake in about 45 degree water….Spoke to a couple of others at the ramp and they had caught their limits also. They did say that the warm water arm was full of fisherman and if you found some structure that you had to stay on it if not then you would loose your spot and that there is not alot of structure up that way. Also you will have to get there early, as I was running a little late and arrived around 10am to find the parking lot full..

Rocky,
Thanks for the info, we were there Saturday. We got there early and it
was already getting crowded. We did find an couple of good spots and
had a limit of 10 inchers and a few around 11. We also tried the warm
water arm, but didn’t catch many. Most came off of chart./blue jigs
tipped with a small minnow. Other guys we talked to were useing all
kinds of other colors.

Has anyone heard that the lake will be dropped to 586 this year for some repair work? I’m call bs until a reliable source can confirm.
January 22nd, 2010 at 6:35 pm
Steve,
I heard the same rumor a couple of weeks ago, but I also heard the same
rumor last winter and it never happened. Not sure who started it, but if
it would be true you could not use any ramps because they would be out
of the water. Lets just hope it is BS.
January 22nd, 2010 at 7:02 pm
You’re right Bill, the same rumor went around last winter and nothing came of it. I expect it is the same this year. I will call on Monday to see if it’s true. As far as the Christmas tree drop goes, I have been waiting to talk to Brad, but I haven’t been home much lately. I’m sure it will be in March, but I will post more info when I get it. The lake has gone up to 607.5 again, which I’m sure will help to get rid of some of the ice, but when I went over it today it was still frozen over. Come on spring!!
January 23rd, 2010 at 9:00 am
Ron,
Is the lake still frozen or did the recent warm up thaw it all out?
January 24th, 2010 at 8:30 am
Still frozen as of yesterday. The level went up to 609.5 so I can’t imagine the ice cover will last much longer, though the 10 day forecast looks like we will be enjoying mostly below freezing temps again over the next week.

Just a quick note…. the spring turkey season dates have been set. They are April 19 through May 9. The youth season is set for April 10 and 11. We still have a few openings for that weekend.
