UPDATE 4/27/17

Lake level is at 604.9. Water temp is low 60’s. We seem to have missed most of the rain and the cool nights is keeping the water temp down. Water is fairly clear right now.

CRAPPIE: Fishing can go from excellent to fair in short order. With the temps fluctuating so much you will need to find the warmer water in order to find the fishing that are starting to get onto the beds. As usual, we talk to some that can get on them regularly and others that just can’t seem to figure them out. Some days they are on north facing banks and some days they are on south facing banks. Minnows seem to be working good and if you are using jigs chartreuse/brown or pink/black seem to be working well. Find some shallow cover or even just some different rocks on an otherwise boring bank.

CATFISH: There seem to be a lot of 20-30# blues and flatheads getting caught. Shad are still a good bait to use but goldfish are also working.

BASS: I have heard people say they are having better days catching bass than they have had in a long time. Largemouth seem to be hanging pretty close to shore in the same area’s as the crappie. We have heard of some white bass coming in on the lake rather than up the rivers so that bite should start to improve.

NOTES: We will start having food this weekend on Friday and Saturday nights from 5 till 9. Come join us for something to eat and drink.

Was up yesterday no bird again;( but had fun, crappie seem to be about 3 to 4 ‘ deep. catching nice fish with just chart jighead tipped with blk/chart tube jig. Fish are thumping it right now and most of them are solid fish. almost everything we have been catching have been 10 1/2 to 12″ . No bobbers , no minnows just pitching up close to the bank and letting it fall back some are still deeper, seem to do our best in 15′ of water and getting hit about 6-8’ deep!!! Looks like its getting ready to be excellent over the next couple weeks:)

Looks like the lake will be in bad shape for quite a while with the flooding.

  3. Kenny Says:

I hope it’s better by mother s day was going to come up

  4. Field frank Says:

How much did the lake come up, anybody know lake level??

  5. Brandon Says:

Suppose to crest Wednesday at 617.5 614 right now

  6. Darlene Reeves Says:

Hit the Links and it will show you detailed.

I was in the lake yesterday and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. There’s stii a lot of water coming in but I found a lot of water that was very fishable. The fishing was not good but a little warm weather and I think it will be.

Thx, for the info on lake level. spawns over now LOL. Appreciate the info Brandon. Now I know how far back in the cove im going Thursday, much easier getting to my turkey spot when its up that high:):)got stuck trying to get to far back last Thursday in the dark:(.

  9. Larry Says:

Drove over the South Fork Hwy 154 yesterday, there was a lot of debris coming in. Be careful out there folks.

  10. Larry Says:

Also, the lake is now expected to crest at 622 on Thursday. If I remember right, the high water ramps open up at 625. Amazing how much can change from one weather front, and we’re lucky compared to some areas.

  11. Ron Says:

They dropped the crest to 621.4 on Thursday. Some of the small one lane ramps could be closed so if you plan to use them call the Corp office. There was a tournament on Sunday and the fish were found in 15 to 17 FOW. The team that won it had their limits. Yes, fish can be found and caught, even under these conditions. As noted, be careful out there as there is quite a bit of debris floating.

  12. JayG Says:

Lake level 620.3 as of 7am.

  13. Tony Says:

How will the high water affect the spawn?

  14. dh Says:

Just one guy’s opinion but spawn is probably over. The only chance it could restart is if they have flooding issues down the Mississippi so they don’t let a bunch of water out and the lake stabilizes for a couple weeks. Normally they are going to start dropping lake level in prep of the next toad choker. Not saying you can’t catch crappie but not likely to be shallow on beds. Its going to be a while before lake is in good condition again.

  15. Brandon Says:

The already have flooding issues down the Mississippi. http://mvs-wc.mvs.usace.army.mil/dresriv.html

  16. printdog Says:

I don’t think the spawn is over but I’ve not been there this year yet, Mark twain in the pass has been at its best mid May. if you can find the clearest water you will find the crappie . just my opinion.

  17. JayG Says:

Lake level 622.01 as of 10am.

  18. Marty Says:

With the lake this high, do you think the fish will drown?

  19. ron Says:

No, but they might get hit on the head from the debris

  20. Bill W. Says:

According to the Corp. project office as of today the crest is still suppose
to be 622.40 tomorrow. Providing the watershed doesn’t get a lot more rainfall. However due to the Mississippi being above flood stage south of the
Salt River inflow they are not able to release a lot of water from the lake for a continues amount of time. So I doubt it is going to fall very fast.
There is a lot of debris starting to show up all over so please be careful out there folks.

    Brandon you are a genius.
